The Shift is Unstoppable

People will always move around, seeking better environment to live in. for this reason, people from less developed countries tend to move to more developed countries looking for job opportunities and riches. This is because as the country become more develops, the people would have better jobs and the standard of living is getting higher. When this happened, the more laborious and lower level jobs would be left vacant, thus filled by immigrants.

And again for this reason, every year thousands of people from all over the world are flocking into Germany, one of the most developed countries in the world, seeking opportunity and better life.

In the short clips shown to us, “Der Hebelschule”, a “Hauptschule”, equivalent to our primary school in Malaysia, has students from 29 different nationalities. 29! These are all children of immigrants who initially came to Germany to work. There will definitely be a challenge and requires high level of tolerance to cope with and integrate so many cultures.

Imagine in Malaysia, in our primary schools, we have classmates from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippine, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, people from the same region yet with very different background and culture. How can we tolerate this situation? Honestly I would feel a little weird, sitting in a classroom surrounded by so many foreigners, so many languages and so many cultures.

But soon, they may not be foreign anymore. Their parents help filled the lower job such as in the industry, manufacturing and construction; all play important roles in the development of our country. In return, we should at least educate their children.

I suppose we must shift our mindset and be ready to accept these foreigners as part of us. After all we are slowly becoming a more developed country and offering much opportunity for people from less developed countries. Perhaps we could start by studying how Germany and her people cope with this situation.
